Fun Adult Classes that You Can Take in Lucena – Part 2

In part one, we can find different dance and music classes offered in Lucena City and we’ll be exploring more in this post.

Visual Art Classes

There are many things that can help us see things differently. One of that is through art. Learning how to create art requires us to look at things and notice the details that we don’t usually see.

In a painting class, Ronald Cortez asked something like: “Do you see that tree? Look at the leaves carefully, how many shades of green do you see?” You’ll start to notice the different tones and shades of every color that you can see in your subject. And as you learn how to mix colors and paint, you also start to understand the works of other artists more. Suddenly, a painting you like looks a little different – maybe because now you also notice the strokes, the materials used, and other details that went with it so you appreciate the painting even more.

With photography, you look at different ways to view your subject and capture what you want to photograph. And depending on the type of photography you like, you start to see how light affects your subject and you learn how to direct your viewers to focus on what you want them to see.

Painting, photography, drawing lessons and such are offered occasionally in Lucena, most often during summer. They are organized either by talented artists as workshops or as regular activities of art groups like Guni Guri Collective and Guhit Pinas. Occasionally, companies organize painting exhibits and workshops in restaurants and malls during special events. Photo studios like Overshot Production conducts photography workshops as well.

Technical Vocational Courses

DressmakingBakingHairdressing and Dressmaking – these are only a few of the short Tesda courses that you can take in Lucena. I took a Dressmaking course years ago and had fun learning how to sew different sorts of blouses, skirts and dresses. A friend took Baking class and she learned how to bake lots of breads and they did cakes like Black Forest too.

You can take these courses at LMSTC in Iyam for free, except for minimal charges on items like ID and uniform. You will also purchase all materials that you will need for class such as fabrics and baking ingredients. The schedule may be a problem for people with full-time work  because classes are scheduled daily for about 3 months, either from 8am-12nn or 1pm-5pm. But there are other schools and institutions offering TESDA courses on weekends, like BWEST College offering Commercial Cooking.

Online Courses

For a wider range of fun classes to take, let’s not forget about online courses which you can also take. You can find free and paid online classes for just about everything you need – languages, arts and crafts, gardening and so on. I took Organic Agriculture from UPOU in Los Baños last year and while you will need to travel a couple of times, you will enjoy the farms you will be visiting and will learn a lot that you can apply to your garden or farm.

Other workshops, classes and seminars

I’ve found acting and modeling workshops, tennis and yoga classes, so I’m sure there are more classes offered here in Lucena. Feel free to comment below so we can compile and hopefully write about them soon.

Trying out and learning about new things offer us a chance to explore different worlds that helps us generate new ideas. Taking classes as an adult helps us do that easily while we release our stress at the same time. Fun classes also help in expanding our social network, allowing us to meet people and gain friends with similar interests.
