Fun Adult Classes that You Can Take in Lucena – Part 1

It’s the end of June and the younger ones are now going to school. Are there any fun classes for us adults too? Whether it’s with food, music, fitness and so on, there’s certainly a lot of enjoyable classes in Lucena.

Dance Classes

If you’re like me who doesn’t enjoy working out on a treadmill, dance classes offer another way to exercise and burn those extra calories.

Zumba classes are everywhere, offered early in the morning or after working hours at Pacific and SM Malls along with other dance studios or dance schools in the city. Zumba is a registered dance fitness program and the instructors are usually licensed by  the Zumba Instructor Network (ZIN). I’ve heard personal testimonials that they’ve lost weight with this dance.

Belly Dancing is another class usually offered by dance schools. Hip movements are generally featured in this dance and you usually wear a hip scarf or a coin belt  to help give focus on belly dancing moves. I don’t feel the same intensity as I do with a Zumba class, but I feel I’m more focused on each movement in Belly Dancing. You may feel awfully sexy too.

Another type of dance taught in the classes I’ve tried is Hip hop/Jazz or Jazz-Funk. Here’s one of my favorite videos of the dance back then:

The types of dance offered in Lucena usually depends on what is hot at the moment, like Zumba.  There are other dance classes like Ballroom Dancing, Hiphop and so on so it’s best to contact the studios directly to find out.

Music Classes

Have you ever wanted to play an instrument? It turns out that playing an instrument is a total workout for your brain. Here’s how:

Of course, you don’t have to take a class and just learn from internet tutorials or from a friend. But for me, I preferred someone else to structure my piano lessons and guide my learning. And you can already learn a lot from a few sessions too, so it’s easy to switch to self-study later on.

Apart from learning to play instruments, you can also try singing classes if you like videoke. It can be a little uncomfortable, especially if you’re not musically inclined when you were a child and you do not want to sing professionally, like I do. But as you progress, you’ll learn how your posture and the way you open your mouth can affect your singing voice. And I think that is amazing – the way you learn how to open up your body because you’re giving your best while also being comfortable with yourself as you try to reach your high note. After a while, you do improve and singing becomes a little more fun.

I often get replies like “Nakakahiya” when I ask why they won’t take a class that they’re clearly interested in. I get embarrassed too sometimes, but I think when you accept that you’ll make mistakes as a beginner then things wouldn’t feel bad. Just look and see how your instructor is there trying to help you. It’s not a test and everyone in class is not judging your performance. You can also drop the class after a few tries if you really feel that it’s not for you. After all, we are just there to learn, let go of our worries, have some fun while we improve ourselves.
