Southern Luzon Expressway to Extend All the Way to Lucena

After many years of negotiations, President Benigno S. Aquino has officially announced that a multi-billion peso project that will extend the Southern Luzon Expressway (SLEX) from Sto. Tomas, Batangas to Lucena, Quezon has finally received the green light.

The project, to be known as SLEX Toll Road 4 (TR4) is expected to shorten the travel time from Sto. Tomas, Batangas to Lucena City, Quezon from four hours to just one.

Estimated to cost 13.1 Billion Pesos, the project will be constructed through the joint efforts of government agencies, San Miguel Corporation, and Citra Metro Manila Tollways Corporation, and will feature the construction of a 58-kilometer, 4-lane toll road that will run from Sto. Tomas, Batangas and pass through Macban, Laguna; San Pablo, Laguna; Tiaong, Quezon; Candelaria, Quezon, and end in Lucena, Quezon.

A groundbreaking ceremony was already held last March 23, 2015, but actual construction isn’t scheduled to start until January 2016 and expected to be finished by 2019.
