Lucenahin Team Escapade: A Day at Mystery Manila

To celebrate the success of the recently concluded “All About Lucena On-The Spot Drawing Contest” which we organized with our friends at BNP Design Studio and Talk@tee shirts, our team decided to try something new instead of the usual dinner treat. Backpacks in tow, we went to Century City Mall last October 4, 2015 to try one of the games that Mystery Manila offers.

“Mystery Manila” is the first live role-playing game in the Philippines. It allows people to try their luck at solving several mystery games such as “Buried Bodies,” “Reversed Reality,” “Rebecca’s Revenge,” etc.

Carrying loads of food and other provisions, our team arrived at the Century City Mall at around five in the afternoon. We were all very excited to explore the place, but what made us even more excited to take things to the next level was seeing a bunch of people already falling in line to play the mystery challenges.

We were briefed by the gamekeeper on all the rules and regulations of the mystery challenge before the game started. After the briefing, the gamekeeper discussed the different mystery challenges to choose from, and without batting an eye, our team chose the “Sinister Sensorium” because we found the name intriguing, plus we’re all fans of the foreign movie “The Sinister.”

The idea in the challenge was that we were captured by fairy-like creatures. They took away one of our senses – our sense of sight, sense of hearing, and our sense of speech. Our bodies were all bound with chains, and the only way to release ourselves and take back our senses was to solve the mystery challenge. If you are familiar with “Saw,” the horror movie about a killer who locks his captives inside a cell, then you’ll surely be interested to play this challenge! Cool, right?

At first, we were all laughing out loud as the gamekeeper walked us to the mystery challenge room, but things took a more serious turn after two of us were blindfolded and the other two were given big head phones playing loud music to cover their ears.

A lot of random but fun surprises (that we won’t be disclosing here so you can try it for yourself when the opportunity comes) happened during the time we were locked inside the mystery room, but, in the end, we managed to solve three of the challenges. A member of our team who was blindfolded even danced “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae)” to celebrate. After that, we had dinner and ate our favorite “goto” while window shopping at the mall.  By the way, who would forget taking group selfies? Not us, of course!

Far away from all the stress and pressure, it was truly a blast! We never expected that our group would exert that much effort in playing the game. Because of it, our team learned to rely on one another, gather new information, and think out-of-the-box. It also made us more inspired and eager to work on another project in the near future – hopefully something equally fun and challenging that all Lucenahins can enjoy.

What do you think guys, would you like to try something like this?
