Question and Answer:

How many years have you been working as a DJ?
Hmmm… I think I have been enjoying my career as a DJ (so much) that I actually forgot how long I have been doing this.

How did you become a DJ?
One day, I was buying dinuguan for my puto when my feet took me to this radio station by the name of 92.7 dwKL. It’s a station located at Gomez corner Merchan streets. While paying for my dinuguan, a friend by the name of Sherwin shouted and said, “Hey Gear!” He was at the 2nd floor of dwKL. What I did was went up and saw that he was actually working as a DJ there. He toured me around the station. I liked what I saw, then the rest was history. Of course, now I am with 97.5 Big Sound FM.

Is it really your dream to become a DJ? Why or why not?
Honestly, no. What I really wanted was to become a lawyer. Until now, I still dream of becoming one.

How long do you see yourself working on this field?
Not very long. Probably 75 more years would do. Hahaha! Well, I think I can do this forever.

What’s the most memorable thing that happened to you on-air?
One day, I was sick and had a runny nose, and a lot of phlegm. After my jock talk, I forgot to turn off my microphone. I extricated the phlegm from my mouth. I produced a horrible, monstrous sound. It was caught on air. I received tons of calls berating me for what I did. Hehehehe….

What do you consider to be the highlights of your career so far?
So many… I have interviewed countless popular people: Mar Roxas, Kiko Pangilinan, Heart Evangelista, Chiz Escudero, David Pomeranz, Kuh Ledesma, Zsa zsa Padilla. It will take us forever if I’ll list them all. Hehehe….

How do you keep your listeners tuned-in to your program?
Honestly… I don’t know how. Maybe, I just try to be myself. What you hear is what you get. I don’t even modulate my voice. The voice you hear on air is my real human voice. Hahahaha!

What’s the worst thing of being a DJ?
You have to at least make sure that you look okay. After all, with any luck, you may find yourself walking in a street jam packed with fans & listeners.

How about the best?
You’re popular…. You get the chance to air what’s in your mind. There is this radio illusion that your opinion really does matter, but the truth is, it doesn’t.

Any advise for aspiring DJs?
Just be yourself and make sure that you really love the art & science of broadcasting.

Message to your listeners:
I love you all. May the Force be with you. Mwah… Up, up, and away… Woooossshhh…
