Earth Hour at SM City Lucena

Earth Hour is an annual event of switching off non-essential lights for an hour in order to raise awareness regarding the climate change and also to conserve energy for at least an hour in order to help protect the Mother Nature. This event started way back 2007 and was inaugurated at Sydney, Australia.

Here in Lucena City, some of the establishments and households have volunteered to join the Earth Hour that was held last Saturday, March 23, 2013, which lasted from 8:30pm to 9:30pm. One of the major malls here in Lucena, SM City Lucena, also participated in the said event by switching off some of their lights along with a mini-program and candle-lighting which was held at the mall lobby.

They also have the “I WILL IF YOU WILL” challenge wall, which encourages everyone to post their promises and actions that they will take to protect the environment beyond the earth hour.

We, as individuals, can do our own part too in helping to save our Mother Earth. Not only during Earth Hour, but in also our daily lives. Little actions like reducing the use of plastic bags and other plastic products, throwing our trash in the garbage bin, and recycling the things that can still be used, would be a great help in preserving the Earth.
