Valid identification cards are always a must. Whether you’re applying for a job; claiming a package; paying your bills; or applying for a loan; chances are, you’re going to be asked to present a valid identification card. The only problem is obtaining an identification card can take quite some time.

Luckily, there’s a government-issued ID that you can get within hours without much fuss. We’re talking about the postal ID.

The postal ID is an identification card issued by the Philippine Postal Corporation which handles all the transactions that go on in post offices.

Its main purpose is to prove your identity when you claim letters or packages addressed to you at the post office, but other private companies such as banks, couriers, and payment centers accept it too.

Getting one is easy, although you do have to pay a bit of money for it. Last time we checked, the regular processing fee was about P 400.00 (you can get your ID within 5 – 10 working days), and the rush service processing fee was P500.00 ( you may claim your ID within 2-3 working days).

Aside from the postal processing fee, you would also submit a couple of requirements such as:

  • Original copy of Birth Certificate by NSO or birth certificate authenticated by the Local Civil Registrar (LCR)
  • Original copy 0f NBI or Police clearance or certification from the Barangay Captain that applicant is a bonafide resident of the Barangay together with photocopy of the valid identification card of the Barangay Captain
  • If a student, Certification from the Principal or School Registrar, together with photocopy of the valid identification card of the Principal or School Registrar
  • If employed, certification from the employer with the employer’s valid Identification card
  • If married, marriage contract issued by the NSO or LCR.
  • Latest CEDULA (not applicable for minors and those considered special children
  • Application form (2 copies)
  • 3 pcs colored photo (1 1/2” x 2”), for P.O.s without Photo Services

For those without a birth certificate, you can also get one by providing, aside from the documents mentioned above, the following:

  • Certification of no record from the Civil Registrar/Negative Certification from NSO
  • Any 2 of the following:
    • a) Baptismal Certificate (machine copy, original must be shown for verification)
    • b) Permanent Elementary School Record 137-E (Machine copy, original must be shown for verification)
    • c) Marriage contract of parents issued by Civil Registrar or Marriage contract of applicant (if married)
    • d) Certificate of Live Birth duly signed and properly filled up (typewritten)

After you’ve completed the required documents, just go to the post office located at the Provincial Capitol, or at the 2nd floor of SM City Lucena (near Kid’s Place), then submit them to the designated window/personnel and the processing fee and wait for a couple of minutes for your documents to be inspected. You will be given a claim slip with designated date on when you may get your ID.

Do remember that your postal ID will only be valid for three (3) years, so don’t forget to renew it once it expires.
