Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Lucena Office

The Lucena City District Jail is managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. It became operational on August 19, 1998 pursuant to the Memorandum of Agreement entered into between the BJMP and the local Government Unit of Lucena City. This institution is located on Dalahican Road, Brgy. Ibabang Dupay, Lucena City, adjacent to BJMP-Regional Office 4-A.

The jail premises is surrounded by concrete walls measuring thirty (30) meters high with eighty (80) centimeters of barbed wire on top. Its main entrance gate is reinforced by a metal sliding door. Its structure is composed of five (5) cells at the right wing and four (4) cells at the left wing. Each cell can accommodate twenty (20) inmates in terms of bed capacity. It has also two (2) sufficient-wide auxiliary rooms for any desired purposes; suitable vacant space in between the two (2) wings; a plaza for recreation, sports or other intents; ideal mess hall and kitchen on the left rear corner of the jail. Four towers overlook the jail’s roof top.

The average monthly jail population is ninety five (95). Inmates who are confined at LCJ are female, minor offenders and male adults aging 50 years old and above, including district prisoners from the congested jails of Quezon Province.

In December 2009, thru the directive of the Regional Office IV-A, LCJ was divided into Male and Female Dorm. The Male Dorm is manned by twelve (12) BJMP personnel (one officer and eleven non-officer rank personnel) while nine (9) (one officer and eight non-officer rank personnel) manned the Female Dorm.

The Lucena City Jail became a model institution in the entire Region IV-A because of the support initiated by the City Government of Lucena. Construction of this facility and the acquisition of equipment improve the living condition of inmates. As of March 2, 2010 the LCJ maintains a population of 95 inmates.

As BJMP prepares the inmates for their eventual reintegration to the society, various rehabilitation programs for livelihood uplift their morale and social development. Rehabilitative programs include cross-stitching, crocheting, carpentry, making different accessories out of recycled materials, bagoong, atsara and coco jam making), therapeutic community, paralegal services, sports and recreational activities, medical and dental services, spiritual activities and counseling, jail visitation and the alternative learning system.
