After a month of preparations, the All About Lucena On-the-Spot Drawing Contest finally came to a successful conclusion.

Organized by BNP Design Studio in cooperation with Talk@tee Shirts and Lucenahin.com.ph, the contest held last September 26, 2015 at Alpha Centauri Educational System, Inc. (ACES) saw twenty amateur artists from all over Lucena City and neighboring towns vie for the chance to claim the first, second, and third prizes.

The contestants, shortlisted from a list of amateur artists who registered for the contest several days prior, were given three themes to choose from — “Most Unforgettable Memories of Lucena,” “Lucena: Then and Now,” and “Legend of Lucena.”

They were then asked to watch a 5-minute video presentation incorporating chosen clips and footage highlighting interesting people, places, and events in the city, after which they were given twenty minutes to come up with a concept that they would like to work on based on the ideas that they got from what they watched, and one hour to translate those concepts into paper using graphite pencils.

All entries were then submitted to the panel of judges composed of Kevin Marca, Sheryl Garcia, and Chad Vivas — all of which are professional graphic artists and designers from Lucena City who work for both local and overseas clients — for evaluation. The judges then awarded points to each contestant based on creativity (maximum of 50 points), relevance to the theme (maximum of 30 points), and speed (maximum of 20 points).

Accumulated points were then tallied and averaged to pick the winners, with the third prize going to Gian Carlo Sandro who went with the “Lucena: Then and Now” category, the second prize going to Analuz Reynales who chose the “Legend of Lucena” category, and Jopeth Buñag who opted for “Most Unforgettable Memories of Lucena.”

Each winner received cash prizes amounting to P 1,000, P 2,000, and P 3,000 respectively along with Certificates of Achievement while the rest of the participants received their own Certificates of Participation, with the event culminating in a group picture to celebrate the occasion.

Again, thanks to everyone who joined the contest and we hope to see you again next time.
