iphone-924904_640Are you getting tired of misplacing things at home? How about searching for important files that you desperately need for work? Isn’t it frustrating wasting precious minutes to search for missing items when you could have done more important matters if you just knew when and how to organize things?

When it comes to keeping an organized home or workspace, many of us have to be reminded time and again just how big of an impact this can have on our productivity, so for those who are still struggling with cluttered cabinets, cupboards, workstations, and the likes, here are a few organization tips to make your 2016 as efficient and hassle-free as possible.

Make a Checklist

Get a piece of paper and list down all of the tasks that you need to do then create a timetable of when you want to go about them. Place them somewhere they can easily be seen so you won’t forget about them then track your progress by ticking off those you’ve already done and highlighting those that you haven’t yet.

Below is an example of a checklist that you can personalize according to your needs and preferences.

Organizational Checklist
Day Tasks Status
Monday Organizing documents according to use (home, office, school), type (letters, bills, cards), significance (mark those that need immediate attention) Done
Tuesday Cleaning and organizing the kitchen (tabletops, cupboards, kitchen utensils) Done
Wednesday Cleaning the floor (includes the living room, the bedrooms, the bathrooms, and other rooms that need constant cleaning) Done
Thursday Cleaning windows (wiping accumulated dust and grime, taking dirty curtains down and replacing them with new ones) Done
Friday Sorting items according to which are still needed and which ones can be disposed or donated to charity Done
Saturday Sorting clothes according to use (e.g. office, home, school, church, casual nights out…) In progress
Sunday Segregating garbage (biodegradable, non-biodegradable, electronics, etc) and disposing them accordingly Scheduled

Use filing cabinets

You may find them kinda space consuming at first, but trust me they help! Putting items inside a filing cabinet makes it a lot easier to get a particular object. Whether they’re kitchen utensils, school supplies, or food, a filing cabinet with individual compartments for different items can make a huge difference.

Designate a “launchpad”

Pick a location inside your house or workspace where you can put all the important items you regularly need for quick access. For example, a rack by the doorway where you can place everyday items like keys, umbrellas, coats, or even utility bills that need to be paid soon can save you minutes of wandering around trying to figure out what it is that you are forgetting.

Get into recycling

There are over a hundred sites that offer step-by-step process on how to recycle your old stuff. For those creative people out there, there are even plenty of tutorials that can help you turn old items into cute but functional tools or accessories. If you check out one of the many life hacks available on the internet, I’m pretty sure you’ll find an interesting one that you can take on as a personal project.

Label your stuff

Labeling your things may sound like tedious work, but they can work wonders, especially if you always have to deal with large volumes of documents or contend with multiple tasks at once without a minute to spare to rifle through drawers that heaven knows hold what mysteries.

To do this, sort your things into categories then label them accordingly. Store-bought sticky notes work well for this, but if you’re feeling extra creative, you can also create cute personalized labels that will help you find things faster while brightening up your room or workspace at the same time. If you can arrange them even further in alphabetical or chronological order, that would be even better.

These are just some of the most basic stuff, but if you haven’t tried them out yet, this is the perfect time to give them a shot. If you have any other personal tips that you’d like to share, feel free to tell us through the comment section below. 🙂
