Who loves attending birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, weddings, reunions and other occasions? How about participating in town fiestas?

Fiestas are some of the most fun and exciting events of the year. We get a chance to spend time with our families, friends, and neighbors to remember our patron saints through prayers, food, and activities. It’s the perfect time to unwind, have a good laugh, and watch something new.

Isn’t it nice to hear the sound of the bandurria, cymbal, mandolin and trumpets from students who practices their piece everytime the fiesta is approaching? How about the colorful ornaments that hang all over the baranggay? I’m pretty sure all of you would agree on how good is the smell that come from the different food being cooked in your place.

This week, Baranggay Cotta will be celebrating their week-long town fiesta, and our team was lucky to get the chance to interview Baranggay Captain Hermilando J. Alcala Jr. to know what’s in store for both residents and visitors alike.

What is this year’s fiesta’s theme all about?

Since the town fiesta falls on the holiday season, Baranggay Cotta’s fiesta’s theme is always about giving and sharing. This year, our theme is “Helping-hands and Reaching Out to the Urban Poor.”

What is the list of events for this year’s fiesta?

This year we organized lots of fun and exciting events for the residents of Baranggay Cotta and every Lucenahin out there.

We have a dance competition, a beauty pageant, variety shows, and the much-awaited party-all-night. Here is the list of events to watch out for:

  • October 22, 2015 – SAYAW KABATAAN
  • October 23, 2015 – MUNTING MUTYA NG COTTA
  • October 24, 2015 – SENIOR GOT TALENT
  • October 25, 2015 – VARIETY SHOW (JAMBOREE)
  • October 26, 2015 – PUROK NIGHT

Who are the organizers of the said events?

The whole Sangguniang Baranggay and Sangguniang Kabataan are the ones who are handling all of the events, but we encourage the residents of Baranggay Cotta to participate as well.

What are the different requirements for them to join the events?

The primary requirement is they must be a resident of Baranggay Cotta. The rest would be based on the particular events that they will be joining.

Do you still practice Filipino traditions during the fiesta? Why or Why not?

Of course! Even though we live in a modern world ruled by technology today, I am proud to say that the residents of Baranggay Cotta still practices  different Filipino traditions, especially during fiesta.

Can you share these Filipino Traditions with us?

Before the fiesta, the men work together to put up ornaments on every post while the women get busy designing the stage, sewing costumes, cutting out paper to use as confetti, and doing all sorts of handicraft such as flower arranging.

During the fiesta, there are houses that follow the practice of cooking different kinds of dishes for visitors that may come to visit them.

Plus, who would forget about how Filipinos love to sing? Almost all of the residents prepare their own Karaoke machine and would sing throughout the day while eating desserts like the famous “leche flan” and “sinukmani” with their neighbors. Sounds interesting, right?

Proceeds from the events of this year’s fiesta would go towards providing medical and educational services for the residents of Baranggay Cotta, so you will not only have fun, you will be helping them as well. All Lucenahins are welcome to visit and join the celebration of Saint Jude Thaddeus Feast, so what are you waiting for?
